LOVE, LAW AND ANARCHY

Joe Doyle loves the Craic – seventeen, sentimental and Irish, he’s desperate to lose his virginity.
He lives with his parents in their bubble of Irishness in a village in the English Home Counties. When he meets Hannah, at a party that they’ve both gatecrashed, their future together seems perfect, but dark forces plot his downfall.
Fast-forward twenty years and Joe is a criminal defence lawyer who doesn’t want to get rich, but does want to help his protester clients make the lives of the rich as difficult as possible. When he’s not zigzagging around the country, picking fights with the police or prosecutors, he’s partying or in in the pub. Sentimental as ever, he falls in love with one woman after another, but none sees him as relationship material. It never occurs to him that others might see him and his lifestyle as an existential threat to the established order and be driven to take drastic measures, but it’s from his own clients that he most needs protecting.
